“Self-love has very little to do with how you feel about your outer self. It's about accepting all of yourself.” ~Tyra Banks~

What is self-love? Self-love means honoring yourself because your needs are just as important as others. Let’s be honest, we all have a desire to be loved. Often, it's a romantic love that we crave. It's normal to want companionship. But romance isn't everyone's struggle or desire – it may be a familial yearning or a platonic friendship. For others, it may be a combination of all of these. Rejection and hurt can leave us feeling unfulfilled and disillusioned with how we expect relationships to play out. Without self-love, we may get caught up in loneliness.
But when you learn to love yourself, you will no longer be caught up with pleasing people, instead, you will live a life full of satisfaction. Once you have the hang of honoring your needs you start to feel more confident. Of course, this results in a more purposeful attitude, especially when setting clear boundaries with people and sticking to them. When you truly love yourself, you stop worrying about what everyone else thinks about you – which means you're less defensive and more confident about living an authentic life.
Loving yourself gives you the courage to cut things from your life that don't truly bring you joy or provide you with ample space to grow. You feel inspired to fill your time with things you enjoy doing. Self-love also brings more comfort when spending time in your own company. You no longer need to find happiness in relationships, whether they're romantic or not. When you start loving yourself, taking responsibility for your happiness, and stop giving your power to everyone else, you naturally feel loved and happier.
