It is a bit of a conundrum. You might be thinking to yourself that you know you are psychic or you want to work on building your power, however, being a witch has become popular on social media and a few of the types of witches may sound like you. So, how do you know? I am someone who likes to think outside the box, my take on the difference between being a witch and psychic is like vegans and vegetarians (yes I went there).
Both are spiritual, both have a focus on otherworldly senses and both are a calling.
The real difference is that like someone who chooses to be a vegan (unless it is hereditary) being a witch is a lifestyle choice.
As someone who would be classed as a closet witch (I am a divination & hereditary witch) I keep my status as a witch pretty much to myself due to my family and my partner (who does NOT understand). But I am also a hereditary psychic and 'see' and 'know' the future, I can feel the energy around people and I know when they are lying (it's why I do really well as a self-sabotage coach). Let's take a look at some of the main psychic traits and types of witches and then you can see which one sounds like you.
THE MAIN TYPES OF PSYCHICS:
CLAIRVOYANCE: The ability to see things in the past, present, and future of an individual.
CLAIRAUDIENCE: (*Clear hearing*) The ability to hear sounds, words, and noises that others can't (Believed to come from the spiritual realm & is often associated with mediums & channelers).
CLAIRCOGNIZANT: (*I know*) The ability to have premonitions or precognition (people with this ability are sometimes called intuitive or psychic knowers).
PRECOGNITION: The ability to see or become aware of future events.
PSYCHOMETRY: The ability to sense or 'read' the history of an object by touching it.
CHANNELING: Also known as psychic mediums, channellers are most likely to use spirit guides to help them.
CLAIRSENTIENCE: (*I feel*) The ability to feel energies around you (this can be from people or energy left behind)
RETROCOGNITION: The ability to see past lives or events that happened before you were born (this gift is sometimes used to correct wrongs done in the past life or learn from the mistakes).
REMOTE VIEWING: The ability to see events happening in real time. They are able to travel long distances, in this world or another (it can be used for finding lost objects or people).
LET'S NOW LOOK AT THE MAIN TYPES OF WITCHES: (Contrary to TV & movies witches don't really ride on brooms and most don't wear a pointy hat).
ECLECTIC WITCH: A witch who pulls from various witchcraft traditions for their spellwork and rituals.
KITCHEN/HEARTH/HOME WITCH: Kitchen witches create most of their magick in the home or kitchen (healing with their food and can include working with herbs and even growing their own plants).
GREEN WITCH: They practice a form of witchcraft deeply rooted in nature and the natural world (you may see a green witch helping with environmental causes).
COSMIC WITCH: They draw their power and inspiration from the cosmos (stars, planets, and celestial phenomena).
HEDGE WITCH: is a practitioner of a form of folk magic that focuses on the liminal spaces between the physical and spiritual world.
CEREMONIAL WITCH: Ritual/ceremonial witches love tradition. They will practice the 'old ways' and are very dedicated.
HEREDITARY WITCH: This is a witch whose ancestors were witches and warlocks and they may have family customs or spells they have inherited.
SEA WITCH: Work with the elements and may favor water over others (they are very in tune to the sea and ocean).
CRYSTAL WITCH: They use crystals to heal ailments in mind/body & spirit and they will use crystals to enhance spell work;
DIVINATION WITCH: Uses magic and tools to gain insight and make predictions.
WICCAN: Identifies as both Wiccan and a witch and practices the modern Pagan religion Wicca.
(There are also Alexadrian/Guardian wicca, Dianic, Celtic, Faery, Gray, Elemental, Solitary, Celestial, Gardenarian, Green, and Lunar witch).
Confused? Don't be. As I said, unless you have inherited power the choice is yours. You may openly choose to be psychic & a witch or like a solitary witch keep it to yourself, there is no right or wrong answer. I know a lot of people who are intuitive & have psychic traits but choose to combine them with their religion, it really is no one's business but yours.
Having any form of 'other' sense is a gift and you are extremely lucky to have it, don't ever let anyone tell you otherwise.
